How to Collect and Send Event Viewer Information

Time to time, our Support Engineers will ask for additional information to help troubleshoot an issue with our system. One of the items a Support Engineer may ask for are Event Viewer logs. The Support Engineer will specify which workstation/server they will want these logs for. On the workstation/server, go to Control Panel.

  1. Go to Administrative Tools.

  2. Go to Event Viewer.

  3. Once in Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs.

    1. There are various logs listed under this menu. Our Support Engineer will specify which logs they will want an export of.

  4. Highlight the log needed.

  5. Go to Action->Save All Events As..

  6. Pick your destination file save location.

  7. Select the "Save as type" as Event Files (*.evtx).

  8. Insert a File Name.

  9. Hit Save.

Once the file is saved to the destination file location. Depending on the size of the file, it may need to be compressed into a .ZIP file.

At this point, you will need to send the file to the Support Engineer who requested the information and they will evaluate the logs to extract any additional information to help troubleshoot in the case in question.
